Study Tips
  • Study every day, you remember more this way than by cramming the night before an exam

  • Schedule study sessions in the same time and place every day so you become conditioned to work at this time

  • Figure out which time of day you are most alert and energetic and study then

  • Set up an area for studying and avoid relaxing in this area

  • Set goals for each study period - make a list that schedules your toughest and most tedious studying chores first, leave easier assignments/tasks for later

  • Segment you time. You will only be able to focus, stay fresh and absorb material into your memory for an hour at a time (if that long). So don't schedule marathon sessions. Take short breaks to stretch your legs, take a quick walk, check e-mail, etc.

  • Break tasks down. For example, instead of writing a long paper in one day, break it down into sections or set a goal of writing 1-2 pages a day

  • Most students work best with few distractions - no TV, stereo, friends conversing, etc.

  • Don't study similar subjects in sequence, for example English and social studies could run together. To make each subject stand our more, break up the courses that are similar with other courses (i.e. English then math then social studies)

  • Regularly review your reading, notes, assignments using different techniques (say out loud, writing things down, alone and in groups) and using short study sessions are the secret to remembering things
